The Summer Solstice has been and gone and 2012 is now slowly on its way back to darker days and long nights. So far the dominant features of 2012 have been rain (and a lot of it) and the alarming regularity with with phrases like "double dip recession", "budget cuts" and "salary freezes" are bandied about on the news and in offices. Despite this many employees are being asked to work longer and harder and to deliver more with the same resources, making staff engagement and productivity a key focus for employers.
This can be clearly seen in the increase in enquiries EMG has received over the past year for team building and bonding events from a variety of business sectors. Creating positive work environments where people communicate freely, appreciate different working styles and genuinely like or at least understand their colleagues encourages a better work ethic and motivates staff to achieve more. Team building and bonding events are superb vehicles for this, providing participants with common goals, a sense of achievement at the end of the day and a level playing field from which to learn and develop.
While there are a huge variety of different events and activities out there in this arena, currently creative and hands on events are the popular choice. Here are a few examples of different creative events to suit various groups.
A superb event for targeting a wide range of skill sets including creativity, planning and adaptability. Teams will need to storyboard their ideas, create their characters out of plasticine and then film and edit their work using professional animation software (with plenty of guidance and support!) to bring their characters to life. A huge plus point for this event it that participants are left with a tangible reminder of what they can create as a team. Go to Animated Film Workshop Page.
Very much an oldie but a goodie! Bigger Picture is one of Sales Manager, Jane’s favourite team building events. The group is split into teams and asked to create a replicate of their chosen piece of art, with each team being given paints, paint brushes and different sections to work on. This event is superb (and unique) for getting teams to realise that communication, not only within their teams but with the wider group, is vital to success. Similarly to Animation Workshop, the group is left with a tangible product at the end of the day. Go to Bigger Picture Page
Great for getting hands on and creative and using your business acumen. Not only will teams need to physically make their artisan chocolates but also create a brand and marketing plan for them, which they must pitch to the judges to win the grand prize. Go to Chocolate Apprentice Page.
